International Endocrinologist Receives Award from U.S. Medical Association

Sergio Zúñiga-Guajardo, MD, FACE, of Monterrey, Mexico, is the recipient of the 2018 American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) International Clinician Award, in recognition of dedicated and compassionate care provided to patients with endocrine diseases, exceptional knowledge and expertise in the field of clinical endocrinology, as well as active advocacy of AACE’s mission in professional and public environments. Dr. Zúñiga-Guajardo will receive his award on Friday, May 18, 2018, during the 27th AACE Annual Scientific & Clinical Congress in Boston.

Dr. Zúñiga-Guajardo, who is in private practice at Doctors Hospital in Monterrey, has served as Professor of Medicine (Endocrinology and Metabolism), Department of Internal Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Autonomous University of Nuevo Leon in Monterrey, Mexico since 1985, working with pre-and post-graduate students. He is co-founder of the Centro de Diabetes Monterrey in Monterrey, and head of the Diabetes Council of the Mexican Society of Nutrition and Endocrinology. Also, he served as head of the Internal Medicine department at the Hospital-Clinic Cuauhtémoc y Famosa for 25 years and serves as Associate Physician.

He was the first president of the Mexican Diabetes Federation, is a member of the International Diabetes Federation, and AACE. Also, he is a past president of the Mexican Society of Nutrition and Endocrinology (SMNE).

His main areas of interest include diabetes, lipids and obesity including research on the insulin resistance syndrome. He is the principal investigator for many clinical research protocols for the pharmaceutical Industry, has written more than 200 abstracts presented at national and international scientific meetings, has published 28 articles in peer-reviewed national and international journals, and has written six book chapters on diabetes and endocrinology.
