Endocrinologist Receives AACE International Clinician Award

Kamal A. S. Al-Shoumer, MD, FRCP, DIC, PhD, FACE, will receive the 2017 International Clinician Award on Saturday, May 6, during the 26th Annual AACE Scientific & Clinical Congress in Austin, Texas.


The International Clinician Award is given to an AACE member who is a clinical endocrinologist practicing outside the U.S., and in recognition of dedicated and compassionate care provided to patients with endocrine diseases. Recipients possess an exceptional knowledge and expertise in the field of clinical endocrinology and active advocacy AACEs mission in both professional and public environments.

Dr. Al-Shoumer is Professor of Medicine and Endocrinology at Faculty of Medicine, Kuwait University and senior consultant and head of the Division of Endocrinology & Metabolic Medicine in the Department of Medicine at both the Faculty of Medicine and Mubarak Al-Kabeer Hospital in Kuwait.

He is the current President of the Kuwait Endocrine Society, a founding member of the AACE Gulf Chapter, served as president of the Pan-Arab Society for Endocrinology and Diabetes, and was Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Kuwait University.

Professor Al-Shoumer graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of Kuwait University, received his postgraduate degree in medicine from the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP and FRCP) of London. While there, Professor Al-Shoumer served his endocrine clinical research fellowship at St. Mary’s Hospital in London, earning his doctoral and his diploma in endocrinology (PhD and DIC) from the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine at the University of London.
