New York Based Physician Elected Treasurer of Major Physician Organization

SAN DIEGO — APRIL 18, 2011— Jeffrey I. Mechanick, MD, FACP, FACE, FACN, ECNU,  was elected Treasurer of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) at its 20th Annual Meeting and Clinical Congress in San Diego, on Saturday, April 16, 2011.
“AACE is working to discover new ways to bring endocrine teaching and education to practicing endocrinologists. I believe I can offer commentary and leadership in a host of other AACE issues that can arise,” Dr. Mechanick said.  “I am fully aware of the socioeconomic challenges facing clinical endocrinologists and am poised to help AACE solve these complex issues.”
As Treasurer, Dr. Mechanick will oversee the collection, retention and expenditure of all AACE funds. He will also serve as Chairman of the Finance Committee, on the Executive Committee and on the Association’s Board of Directors.
Dr. Mechanick graduated from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in 1985. He completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in 1988, and completed fellowship training in Endocrinology and Metabolism at Mount Sinai in 1990. Dr. Mechanick is the Clinical Professor of Medicine and Director of Metabolic Support in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Bone Disease at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine.  He has authored more than 175 scientific publications in endocrinology and nutrition and co-edited the recently published book from the American College of Endocrinology, The Complete Guide to Lifelong Nutrition.  Dr. Mechanick has served as President of the American Board of Physician Nutrition Specialists, lectures nationally and internationally on the subject, and was recently appointed to the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition Science Board.  He continues to care for many patients with diabetes and nutritional disorders, as well as train physicians in endocrinology and nutrition.
Dr. Mechanick joined AACE in 1994, and has served on numerous committees and task forces within the Association.
