AACE Board of Directors Member Dr. Jeffrey I. Mechanick Appointed To President’s Council On Fitness, Sports And Nutrition Science Board

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – February 18, 2011 – American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) Secretary, Jeffrey I. Mechanick, MD, FACP, FACE, FACN, ECNU has been appointed to the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition(PCFSN) Science Board.  The PCFSN Science Board is comprised of ten of the top researchers and academicians in the areas of physical activity, fitness and nutrition who are selected due to the significant contributions they have made to the research and science in these fields. 

 
Dr. Mechanick, a nationally-recognized expert in the field of nutrition, will greatly assist the work of the Council’s Science Board with its expanded mission into nutrition.  Dr. Mechanick is the Clinical Professor of Medicine and Director of Metabolic Support in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Bone Disease at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine.  He has authored more than 170 scientific publications in endocrinology and nutrition and co-edited the recently published book from the American College of EndocrinologyThe Complete Guide to Lifelong Nutrition.  Dr. Mechanick has served as President of the American Board of Physician Nutrition Specialists and lectures nationally and internationally on the subject.  He continues to care for many patients with diabetes and nutritional disorders, as well as train physicians in endocrinology and nutrition.

The mission of the PCFSN is to engage, educate and empower all Americans across the lifespan to adopt a healthy lifestyle that includes regular physical activity and good nutrition.  The Council plays a key role in the development of the administration's programmatic priorities, outreach and awareness efforts to improve the health and quality of life for all Americans.
