Howard M. Lando, MD, FACP, FACE, is a practicing Endocrinologist with Medical Specialists of Northern Virginia in Alexandria and Reston, Virginia. He was born and raised in the Washington, DC, area and received a BS in Physics at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia. He received his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia (VCU) in Richmond, Virginia. His internship and residency were completed at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio, and his fellowship was completed at the George Washington University in Washington, DC, where he is a Clinical Professor of Medicine.
Dr. Lando is a Past President of Inova Mt. Vernon Hospital medical staff and has served on its Executive Committee since 1995. He is also a Past President of the DC Affiliate of the American Diabetes Association and is a past member of the Laboratory Committee of the American Thyroid Association.
Dr. Lando currently serves AACE as the Chair of the Legislative and Regulatory Committee; a member of the Bylaws, Socioeconomics and Advocacy, Legislative and Regulatory, Underserved Populations and ACE FACE Application Committees; and the alternate to the RVS Update Committee (RUC). He was also a board member of Mid-Atlantic AACE where he helped found its Legislative Committee with Dr. Anne Leddy and currently is an advisor.
He has been a reviewer for Endocrine Practice, and the author of 21 papers, including a review of Accountable Care Organizations and RUC101, in theFirst Messenger. He has served on the AACE Board of Directors for the past four years and is the Assistant Parliamentarian as well. He was also a course co-director of the recent leadership course at the 2015 AACE Annual Meeting. He has also served on numerous task forces, including ECNU, Sunshine Act, and, most recently, a participant and writer for the Glucose Monitoring Conference.
He is happily married to Trudi Lando and has two adult daughters who also live in the Washington, DC, area.
